The Competition Tribunal has unconditionally approved the merger in which Malan and Buys (Pty) Ltd (“M&B”) will acquire Aptekor Sneldiens (Pty) Ltd (“Aptekor Sneldiens”) and Aptekor Wholesale (Pty) Ltd (“Aptekor Wholesale”). Following the transaction, M&B will exercise sole control over both firms.
M&B is a wholly owned subsidiary of SPAR Health (Pty) Ltd which, in turn, is wholly owned by SPAR Group Ltd which operates a general wholesaling business across South Africa.
M&B operates as a full-line pharmaceutical wholesaler based in Gauteng. It supplies pharmacies, hospitals, healthcare professionals, government institutions and NGOs. It distributes products, including to Pharmacy at SPAR stores, largely through a third-party logistics provider.
Aptekor Wholesale is a pharmaceutical product wholesaler that supplies pharmacies, health shops, farm stalls, general retailers and other businesses in the Western and Northern Cape. Aptekor Sneldiens operates primarily as an internal courier service for Aptekor Wholesale.
